Polynesian Voyaging and History at the Honolulu Book and Music Festival - May 18 & 19





Ancient Polynesian voyaging and navigation along with the history of Hawaiian civilization will be featured at the upcoming Honolulu Book and Music Festival (May 18-19). 
             
 On Saturday (May 18) at noon Sydney Iaukea will be interviewing film maker Sam Low (The Navigators) and Patrick Kirch in the "Telling Lives" series in the Hawai'i Council for the Humanities Pavilion. And, from 2-4 pm on Saturday Low and Hokule'a navigator Nainoa Thompson will show the re-issued The Navigators film and discuss Low's new book Hawaiki Rising.

On Sunday (May 19), Patrick Kirch will discuss new insights into ancient Hawaiian history and the rise of this island civilization, from noon to 1 pm in the Alana Hawaiian Culture Pavilion. A book signing for Kirch's award-wining new book, A Shark Going Inland Is My Chief, will be held afterwards at the Barnes and Noble booth at the festival.
